Quick Transparency Breakdown

Brandon Saffold and Carolyn Rush have been highly accessible during this cycle, participating in a lengthy interview, showing a clear willingness to engage with voters and they have agreed to participate in a candidate's forum. However, while their website outlines their priorities, it still lacks detailed breakdowns of how they intend to implement those goals. Also, our ability to connect with them was only by random chance via a facebook post from an old high school friend.

Erik Simonsen and Antwan McClellan, the Republican incumbents, have not participated in public interviews or town halls during this election cycle, but they do have track records, public voting records, and a list of sponsored legislation that offer insight into their stances and accomplishments. They do also frequently attend the bi-weekly republican breakfast, but that is a bit of a political insider type of event.

Carol Sabo, meanwhile, has launched a campaign website that outlines general priorities but has not responded to outreach and has made no known public campaign appearances. While better than nothing, the lack of direct engagement makes it difficult to evaluate her full platform or intentions.

Our methods include: sending mail and emails to addresses filed with the county clerk, attending party events, searching public sources, and inviting candidates to participate in interviews and questionnaires. Our goal is to reduce information gaps for voters, especially in lower-visibility races.
